Small black book case

Small Black Book Case

A small black book case is a short or narrow bookshelf in black. “Small” is not one size. It can mean a 12 in wide cube unit, a 28 in low shelf, or a 50 in narrow tower, and the listings use the words loosely. The finish is also loose: some listings call a wood grain “black”. This guide compares five black small bookcases from Amazon listings we opened, with the sizes, the finishes and the load limits exactly as each listing states them, and it notes where a listing is missing a number.

Quick answer

For the smallest footprint, the Furinno LUDER is 12 in wide and 9.3 in deep. For a low shelf that works as a side table, the MNEETRUNG is 27.6 in high. For a wider low unit, the Furinno PASIR is 23.62 in wide. For height in a tight corner, the Apetaccat and Fultyle are 50.39 in and 39.4 in high. Only the two Furinno listings state load limits, and only the Apetaccat names an anti-tip kit. Tall units should be fastened to the wall either way.

What the person typing “small black book case” wants

The reader wants a bookcase that is black, fits a small spot, and holds books. They need the footprint, the height, the finish and the load limit. They also need to know whether the unit comes with something to stop it from tipping. This guide gives those numbers where the listing does, and says so when it does not.

How we chose

We searched Amazon for small black bookcases and opened seven listings, each once, on 2026-10-18. We kept five whose listing color is black or a black wood finish. We left out two MAHANCRIS 5-tier bookcases because the listing color is rustic brown, and we left out the 71 in tall units that appeared in the results because they are not small. Every spec comes from the listing text. Where two fields disagree, we show both. We did not test any of them.

Fultyle 4-Tier 11.8 x 15.7 x 39.4 in Black Not stated Back edge protection only

1. Furinno LUDER 3-Cube Bookshelf (Blackwood)

Furinno LUDER Book Shelf, 3-Cube Bookshelf, Bookcase with Open Shelves, Blackwood

Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-18): Laminated engineered wood with a closed back and a finish the listing calls Blackwood. The size is 9.3 in deep, 12 in wide and 31.5 in high, and the item weight is 13.36 pounds. Shelf thickness is 0.5 in. The listing states a capacity of 20 pounds on each cube and 20 pounds on the top, 60 pounds in total when the load is spread evenly. It also says the wood is FSC-certified; that is the seller’s statement.

Conflict to check: the finish is named Blackwood, which is a wood-grain finish and not a flat black. Look at the listing photos if you want a solid black.

What the listing does not state: whether an anti-tip kit is included.

Best for: a narrow wall or a corner where 12 in of width is all you have, and the load is paperbacks and small decor.

Skip if: you need a bookcase that holds a full set of hardbacks, or you need a flat black paint finish.

2. Furinno PASIR 3-Tier Display Bookshelf (Black Oak)

Furinno PASIR Book Shelf, 3-Tier Display Bookshelf with Adjustable Shelf, Cube Storage Bookcase, Black Oak

Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-18): Laminated engineered wood with a closed back. The size is 11.81 in deep, 23.62 in wide and 28.15 in high, and the item weight is 28.6 pounds. One middle shelf adjusts from 5.9 to 14.9 in. The listing states 15 pounds on the top shelf and each of the two middle shelves, and 20 pounds per bottom section.

Conflict to check: the title and finish field say Black Oak, while the color field says Blackwood. The listing uses both names for one finish.

What the listing does not state: an anti-tip kit.

Best for: a low, wide spot under a window or beside a sofa, where 28 in of height keeps the top below eye level.

Skip if: you need a bookcase narrower than 23.6 in.

3. MNEETRUNG 3-Tier Industrial Small Bookshelf (black)

Small Bookshelf, 3 Tier Industrial Bookcase with Metal Frame and Backboard, Low Black Book Shelf (MNEETRUNG)

Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-18): The listing gives 15.7 in wide, 11.8 in deep and 27.6 in high, with 11.2 in between boards, and a weight of 11.24 pounds. Shelf thickness is 0.59 in. It has an X-shaped side frame, cross bars, a backboard and adjustable feet. The text says tools come in the box.

Conflict to check: the material field says metal, the finish field says engineered wood, and the bullet text says MDF. The depth field says 15.7 in, while the dimension line says 11.8 in deep. We use 15.7 wide by 11.8 deep, because the title, the size line and the bullet all agree on it.

What the listing does not state: a weight capacity per shelf or in total, and an anti-tip kit.

Best for: a low side shelf in a bedroom or office, where 27.6 in of height works as an end table.

Skip if: you need a stated load rating, since the listing gives none.

4. Fultyle 4-Tier Small Bookcase with Solid Wood Legs (black)

Book Shelf, 4-Tier Bookshelf with Storage, Small Bookcase Display Shelves with Solid Wood Legs (Black) (Fultyle)

Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-18): MDF with solid wood legs, in black. The size is 11.8 in deep, 15.7 in wide and 39.4 in high, and the weight is 13.33 pounds. The listing describes spindle legs, rounded edges and a back with edge protection “to avoid accidental tipping”. It says all hardware and steps come in the box and that assembly needs no tools.

Conflict to check: the listing’s tipping wording is about edge protection on the back. It does not say an anti-tip kit or wall strap is included. Treat it as not stated.

What the listing does not state: a weight capacity and an anti-tip kit.

Best for: a hallway or bedroom wall where you want four shelves in 15.7 in of width.

Skip if: you need a stated load rating or a wall strap in the box.

5. Apetaccat 4-Tier Small Narrow Bookcase (black)

Bookshelf, Modern 4-Tier Bookcase, Open Storage Book Shelf, 11 x 14.2 x 50.4 Inches, Small Narrow Bookshelves, Black (Apetaccat)

Specs (from the listing, checked 2026-10-18): MDF panels with a lacquered black finish, 4 tiers. The spec field gives 11.02 in deep, 14.17 in wide and 50.39 in high, and 17.31 pounds. The listing says it has adjustable feet and an anti-tip kit.

Conflict to check: the title gives 11 x 14.2 x 50.4 in, and a bullet gives 14.2 in D x 11 in W x 50.4 in H, while the spec field gives 11.02 in D x 14.17 in W. The footprint is the same; the depth and width are listed in both orders. Check the listing photos before you measure a gap.

What the listing does not state: a weight capacity per shelf.

Best for: a tight corner where you want height, and want the anti-tip kit the listing names.

Skip if: you want a low shelf. At about 50 in, it is the tallest of the five and not small by height.

What “black” means on these listings

Three of the five listings call the finish plain black: MNEETRUNG, Fultyle and Apetaccat. The two Furinno listings use wood-grain names, Blackwood for the LUDER and Black Oak for the PASIR (which also carries Blackwood in its color field). The listing does not say whether either is a flat black. If you need a solid black to match other furniture, look at the listing photos, and for the Furinno pair consider that the names point to a grain.

Load limits and what they mean for books

The Furinno LUDER lists 20 pounds per cube and on top, with 60 pounds in total when evenly spread. The Furinno PASIR lists 15 pounds on the upper shelves and 20 pounds per bottom section. The other three listings give no figure. Do not assume one. If you plan to fill a shelf with hardbacks, weigh a sample stack first and compare it with the number on the listing. A shelf that is rated for less than your stack is the wrong shelf.

Tip-over safety for tall small bookcases

A narrow, tall bookcase is easy to tip. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Anchor It campaign says existing furniture can be anchored with inexpensive anti-tip brackets, that new furniture is sold with anti-tip devices which should be installed right away, and that you should follow the manufacturer’s instructions. See the CPSC Anchor It page. Among the five units here, only the Apetaccat listing names an anti-tip kit. For any of the others, ask whether the box has a wall strap, and if it does not, buy one. Use a wall anchor suited to your wall type (drywall, plaster or masonry) and read the hardware notes.

How to measure before you buy

Measure the width and depth of the spot, then the height under any window sill, shelf or slanted ceiling. Add the baseboard: a bookcase that sits against a wall may stand a little away from it. Then check the doorway. The listings give a minimum door width of 12 in for the LUDER and 15 in for the PASIR, which you can compare with your hallway.

Worked example

Say you have a corner that is 14 in wide and 12 in deep, a 60 in high ceiling and a window sill at 30 in. These are made-up numbers.

  • Furinno LUDER: 12 in wide and 9.3 in deep fits, and at 31.5 in high it sits just above the 30 in sill, so check it.
  • Fultyle: 15.7 in wide does not fit a 14 in corner.
  • Apetaccat: 14.17 in wide does not fit by 0.17 in, and 11.02 in deep fits.
  • MNEETRUNG: 15.7 in wide does not fit.

Only the LUDER passes the width test. If you can move the corner out by 2 in, the others open up. Measure first, then pick.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Taking “Blackwood” or “Black Oak” as a flat black.
  • Reading the size from the title when the spec field differs, as it does on the Apetaccat and MNEETRUNG listings.
  • Putting heavy books on a unit with no stated load limit.
  • Leaving a 50 in unit unfastened where children climb.

Who should skip a small bookcase

Skip a small bookcase if you own a large library of hardbacks or art books. A wall of floor-to-ceiling shelving, or heavy-duty units with stated per-shelf ratings, suit that better. Also skip these if you want a shelf with doors; every unit here has open shelves.

FAQ

What counts as a small bookcase?

The listings do not agree. The five here range from 31.5 in high and 12 in wide to 50.39 in high and 14.17 in wide. Use the spec field and the table above, then measure your space.

Which of these are a true black?

The MNEETRUNG, Fultyle and Apetaccat listings give the color as black. The two Furinno listings use Blackwood and Black Oak, which are wood-grain finish names.

Do these bookcases have a weight limit?

Two listings state one, the two Furinno units. The LUDER gives 60 pounds in total and the PASIR gives separate figures for upper shelves and bottom sections. The MNEETRUNG, Fultyle and Apetaccat listings do not give a number.

Do I need to anchor a small bookcase to the wall?

The US CPSC Anchor It page says to anchor top-heavy furniture with anti-tip brackets and to follow the maker’s instructions. Only the Apetaccat listing here names an anti-tip kit, so check the box for the others.

Will it fit through a doorway?

The Furinno LUDER listing gives a minimum door width of 12 in and the PASIR 15 in. The other listings do not give a figure beyond their own dimensions, so measure the doorway against the box size.
