A stackable shoe rack is a short, open shelf unit that you can place on top of another unit of the same design to add a layer. People who buy one usually want to know three things: how many pairs it holds, how much each shelf can carry, and whether the stacked height stays safe in a closet or entryway. The four listings below are stackable shoe racks sold on Amazon, and they describe their sizes, shelf loads and stacking rules in different ways. This guide sets out what each listing states, where the listings disagree, and what the listings leave out.
Quick answer
- If you want a metal rack that stacks and has the most explicit stacking instructions, the KEETDY listing describes a 3-tier unit with two sets stacking into six tiers, and a stated 50 lb per shelf.
- If you want a bamboo rack with the clearest load split, the SONGMICS listing states 22 lb per tier and 66 lb total, and says tools are included.
- Check the per-shelf figure against what you plan to store. Two listings give a 30 lb per shelf figure, and one of them also carries a 90 lb figure that the listing does not define.
- Do not stack beyond the number of tiers the listing allows. One bamboo listing says no more than three tiers in its safety text, while its bullets describe stacks of four and six.
How the stackable shoe rack works
Most stackable shoe racks are built from modules. Each module is a small frame with two or three open shelves. A shelf holds a row of shoes, and the frame’s depth decides how far the shoes sit from the front edge. Stacking means setting one module on top of another, usually with a locking edge, a dowel, or a set of feet that fit into the module below. The listings in this guide describe that process in different words, so the sections below compare what each one says rather than assuming the same design.
The useful numbers are the overall width, the shelf depth, the height of each module, the number of pairs the listing says it holds, and the load the listing states for each shelf and for the whole unit. Shoe capacity is a rough guide. A pair of boots takes more vertical room than a pair of flats, so the listing’s pair count only helps if your shoes are similar in height.
The four listings compared
The table shows the figures each listing states. A cell that reads “not stated” means the listing did not give that figure in the text we read. Where a listing gives two figures that disagree, both are shown.
| Listing (ASIN) | Material | Size as stated | Tiers | Stated load | Stacking |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KEETDY (B0BBZYKGYV) | Metal | About 43 in long, 11.4 in deep; height varies by variant (18.8 to 37.8 in) | 3 | 50 lb per shelf | Two sets stack to six tiers |
| ROMGUAR CRAFT (B0C3R76MWB) | Bamboo | 27 in wide, 11 in deep, 20 in high | 3 | 30 lb per shelf; total not stated | Safety text: no more than 3 tiers |
| Simple Houseware (B0B6GZ1DZY) | Metal | 26.5 in wide, 10.6 in deep, 19 in high | 3 | 30 lb per shelf; a 90 lb figure in the description is not defined | Stackable; connect multiple units |
| SONGMICS (B0G2577PNC) | Bamboo | 27.5 in wide, 9.8 in deep, 20.2 in high | 3 | 22 lb per tier; 66 lb total | Add another unit on top |
KEETDY 3-Tier Long Shoe Rack (B0BBZYKGYV)
This listing is for a metal rack with three shelves and a wire grid. The listing says each shelf is rated at 50 lb, and its safety text repeats the figure: do not exceed 50 lb per shelf to prevent deformation or collapse. The bullets say the shelf spacing is 8 inches, which the listing presents as room for boots. It also says two sets can stack into a six-tier rack, and that one layer can be taken out to make room for tall boots.
The product dimensions in the specification block read 1 by 1 by 1 inch, which is clearly not the size of the rack. The variant options show lengths of about 43 inches, depths of 11.4 inches, and heights of 18.8, 24.4, 32.4 or 37.8 inches depending on the variant. Use the figures for the variant you choose, not that block. The listing does not state whether tools are included or how long assembly takes.
Its safety text also says to ensure ventilation to avoid rust and to use caution when stacking to prevent tipping. The listing does not describe an anti-tip device or a wall-mounting kit. That matters for stacks: a six-tier stack is taller than any single module shown in the listing.
ROMGUAR CRAFT 3-Tier Bamboo Shoe Rack (B0C3R76MWB)
This is a bamboo rack, listed at 27 inches wide, 11 inches deep and 20 inches high. The listing says the bamboo is high-temperature treated. Its safety text gives a maximum weight capacity of 30 lb per shelf. The listing does not state a total for the whole unit.
The listing has a conflict on stacking. The bullets say that two two-tier units can be stacked into a four-tier rack and that three two-tier units can make six tiers. The safety text, however, says not to stack more than three tiers. We cannot say which instruction the manufacturer intends. A reader who wants to stack should follow the safety text and treat the bullet examples as unconfirmed until the manufacturer confirms them in writing.
The bullets say assembly takes about 10 minutes and that all accessories are included. The listing describes the rack as a floor mount. It does not describe an anti-tip device, so if you plan to stack the rack, the stacked height is the limit to check.
Simple Houseware 3-Tier Stackable Wired Grid Shoe Rack (B0B6GZ1DZY)
This is a metal rack with a wire-grid front, listed at 26.5 inches wide, 10.6 inches deep and 19 inches high. The bullet and the safety text both say the shelves hold up to 30 lb each, and the safety text adds that the rack should sit on a stable, level surface to prevent tipping.
The product description is the source of a conflict. It says “Holding Up to 90 Lbs” for the three-tier variants. It does not say whether that is per shelf or for the whole rack. The per-shelf figure in the bullet and safety text is 30 lb, so 30 lb is the figure this guide reports. The 90 lb figure would be three shelves at 30 lb, but the listing does not say so, so we do not add the figures together.
The listing says the rack is stackable and that you can connect several units to build a custom setup. The variant table shows that some of the 3-tier variants have adjustable bottom glides. The listing does not mention tools, and it does not state assembly time.
SONGMICS Bamboo Shoe Rack, 3-Tier (B0G2577PNC)
This listing is the most specific about load. It gives a maximum static load of 22 lb per tier and 66 lb in total. It lists the rack as 9.8 inches deep, 27.5 inches wide and 20.2 inches high, and gives a weight of 4.6 lb. It states a capacity of 12 to 16 pairs for the three-tier size.
The bullets say that the rack has about 5.1 inches of space beneath the bottom shelf, which the listing says is useful for slippers and for cleaning. The listing states that tools are included, that the parts are numbered, and that the tiers are joined by dowels. It says the rack can be stacked by placing another unit on top.
The listing has one small conflict about the material. The specification block says bamboo, while the product description says the main body is made of FSC-certified wood. Both statements appear on the listing, and we report both. The product size variants also show that the 4-tier size is 26.9 inches high, which is taller than the 3-tier size used in this comparison.
What the stated loads mean in practice
A stated per-shelf load is the figure the manufacturer gives for one shelf. A total is the figure for the unit as a whole. The two are not interchangeable. If a rack is rated 22 lb per tier and 66 lb total, a three-tier unit fully loaded to the per-tier figure reaches the total. A rack rated 30 lb per shelf and given no total leaves the total undefined.
Shoes are not heavy one pair at a time, but the load adds up quickly across a shelf. A row of work boots can weigh more than a row of sneakers. Use the stated figure for the shelf and assume that the heaviest shoes you own will sit on the lowest shelf. None of the four listings gives a figure for a single heavy item, so do not treat the shelf rating as a promise for a bag, a box, or a stack of other objects.
Stacking and stability
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has published work on furniture tip-over, and its 2015 report on anchoring furniture is one source we opened for this guide. The report says that the voluntary furniture standard it discusses covers chest-type furniture and other clothing storage units taller than 30 inches. The four shoe racks in this comparison are between 19 and 27 inches high in their listed sizes, so they are below that height. The report’s anchoring guidance is therefore not a requirement for these racks, but its general advice on stability still applies to stacks.
Stacking changes the stability picture. A stack is taller than a single module and its centre of weight moves up. The listings tell you to place the rack on a stable, level surface (Simple Houseware), to avoid overloading (KEETDY and ROMGUAR CRAFT), and to avoid stacking past the stated tier limit (ROMGUAR CRAFT). Follow those instructions. If you stack two units in a narrow closet, keep the stack away from a door or a path, and do not put heavy boots on the top tier.
The report also explains that a wood screw in a stud is the usual way to anchor furniture to a wall, and that drywall anchors are not as strong when a load pulls straight out from the wall. Shoe racks are usually freestanding and not anchored, so this is not a step for most readers. If your rack is in a rental where a tall stack could tip, check the local rules and the manufacturer’s instructions before you decide to add a strap.
How we chose
We searched Amazon for “stackable shoe rack” on 2026-10-29 and read the listings that were non-sponsored and that describe a stackable or modular rack. We opened four of the non-sponsored listings from the first page of results and recorded only the figures they state. The other results on that page were not opened, so this guide does not cover them. Price, star ratings, review counts, badges and shipping were not recorded and are not part of this guide. The order of the table follows the order in which we read the listings, not a ranking.
What we could not verify
- Whether the ROMGUAR CRAFT listing’s stacking examples are safe. The listing’s safety text and its bullets do not agree.
- Whether the Simple Houseware 90 lb figure is per shelf or per rack.
- Assembly time for three of the four listings. Only the ROMGUAR CRAFT listing gives a time, and it says about 10 minutes.
- Whether any of the racks is made of a material that resists moisture beyond what the listing says. The bamboo listings describe a treatment but not a moisture rating.
- The actual size of your closet, which is the measurement that decides whether a three-tier unit fits.
Buying checklist
- Measure the floor space first, including the depth of the closet or wall, and compare it with the listed depth. The depths here run from about 9.8 to 11.4 inches.
- Pick the material you want. Metal and bamboo are both listed. The listings do not give a moisture rating for either.
- Check the load figure the listing states and whether it is per shelf or total. Store the heaviest shoes on the lowest shelf.
- Decide how many tiers you need and read the stacking limit in the safety text, not only the bullets.
- Look for included tools and hardware. The SONGMICS listing says tools are included, and the ROMGUAR CRAFT listing says accessories are included.
- Choose a level, stable floor. Keep the rack clear of doors and walkways.
Mistakes to avoid
- Using the size block on the KEETDY listing as written. It gives 1 by 1 by 1 inch, which is not the rack’s size.
- Assuming the bullet stacking examples are correct for the safety text. On the ROMGUAR CRAFT listing they are not the same.
- Adding the Simple Houseware 90 lb figure to the 30 lb per shelf figure. The listing does not define the 90 lb figure.
- Stacking boots on the top tier. The listings describe stacking, but none of them describes a tipping test on the top tier.
- Expecting a shoe rack to carry a bag, a box, or a laundry basket. The listings state shoe loads only.
FAQ
How many shoes does a stackable shoe rack hold?
Only two of the four listings give a pair count. The SONGMICS listing says 12 to 16 pairs for its three-tier size, and the Simple Houseware listing says 9 pairs. The other two do not state one. Boots take more height than flats, so the stated count is only a guide.
How much weight can one shelf hold?
The four listings give 22 lb (SONGMICS, per tier), 30 lb (ROMGUAR CRAFT and Simple Houseware, per shelf), and 50 lb (KEETDY, per shelf). The SONGMICS listing also gives a total of 66 lb. Use the figure that matches the listing you buy.
Can I stack two shoe racks?
Each of the four listings describes stacking, but the instructions differ. The ROMGUAR CRAFT safety text says not to go beyond three tiers. KEETDY says two sets stack into six tiers. Follow the instructions for the model you buy, and keep the stack away from doors and walkways.
Do these racks need to be attached to the wall?
None of the four listings describes a wall-mount or anti-tip device for these racks. They are described as floor mounted. The CPSC guidance we opened applies to taller units, and the four racks here are shorter than the 30-inch height that report discusses.
Are bamboo shoe racks better than metal ones?
The listings do not say one is better. Bamboo is described as treated and durable, and metal is described as sturdy and resistant to rust. Neither listing gives a moisture rating, so choose by look, load and the space you have.
Are the stated figures verified?
The figures are each listing’s own claims, taken from the listing and its safety text on the date read. The sources we opened do not confirm them independently. Where a listing conflicts with itself, this guide says so.

Bottom line
A stackable shoe rack is a sensible choice when you need more pairs in the same floor space. Choose the model whose stated load and stacking rules match what you plan to store, measure the variant you intend to buy, and follow the stacking limit in the safety text. If the load figure matters most, the SONGMICS listing gives the clearest split between per-tier and total capacity.
