Spice Jars for the Kitchen

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Details

A spice jar is a small container with a lid, usually glass or plastic, that holds one spice or seasoning at a time in a kitchen. This guide is about the jars themselves: capacity, material, lid type, size and the labels or extras that come with them. Racks, shelves and cabinets that hold jars are covered in other posts on this site, and this guide leaves them aside.

The six products below were checked on Amazon on 2026-10-17. Every size, count, material and dimension quoted here comes from the listing. Where a listing does not state a detail, the text says so. Prices and shipping costs change, so check the current price on Amazon before you buy.

Quick answer

Start with the one measurement you cannot change. If your drawer or cabinet opening is fixed, measure it first, then compare the jar height and width that each listing states. Choose a 24-jar set if you want one order that includes labels and a funnel: the ComSaf, Deco haus and SAVVY & SORTED sets all say so. Choose the 6-pack glass jars from Zoaiirte or Kalnsa if you want fewer jars with wood lids. Choose the 30-pack PPXHFV plastic jars if the listing’s point about being lightweight and not glass matters to you. None of the listings states every spec, so the table and the product sections mark each gap.

How we chose

We looked for listings whose title and product type are spice jars or small seasoning containers, and we opened each listing once. We compared six things that each listing either states or leaves out:

  • Capacity per jar, in the unit the listing uses
  • Number of jars per pack
  • Jar material (glass or plastic) and lid material
  • Shape and stated dimensions
  • Shaker or pour inserts, and whether the listing describes them
  • Included extras: labels, funnel, chalk marker, grinder lid

We did not sort by price, and we did not use customer comments as a source for any spec. Where the variant selector on a listing shows sizes that the bullet text does not describe, we say so in the product section.

For example, if your spice drawer needs 24 jars at 4 fl oz each, the arithmetic is 96 fl oz in total. That total is our own sum of the per-jar figure from the listing; no listing states a total for its set.

The six products

Zoaiirte 8 fl oz glass spice jars, 6-pack

Best for: a counter or shelf display of larger glass jars with wood lids, where the jar is for herbs or a mix of dry goods.

Skip if: you need 24 or more jars, or you need a jar height that fits a narrow drawer. The listing gives height and diameter, but not the drawer fit.

Listing specs (checked 2026-10-17): 6 jars. Each jar measures 2.56 inches in diameter and 4.33 inches in height, in borosilicate glass. The acacia wood lid has a plastic liner and a sealing gasket, with standard Mason-style threading. The listing states the jars are dishwasher-safe and recommends hand washing and towel drying the wood lid. The listing does not state the interior capacity beyond the 8 fl oz in the title.

Listing conflict: the variant selector shows 4 fl oz, 6 fl oz and 8 fl oz. Check which size is in your cart before you order.

PPXHFV 9 oz square plastic spice jars, 30-pack

Best for: a large number of jars, where weight and breakage matter more than glass. The listing says the jars are a replacement for glass spice bottles and that they are lightweight.

Skip if: you want glass, or you need jar height and width. The listing gives a capacity of 9 oz (270 ml) and a square shape, but no dimensions.

Listing specs (checked 2026-10-17): 30 pieces. Each jar holds 9 oz (270 ml). The square shape is stated to save cabinet space compared with round bottles. The body is food-grade PET plastic and clear. The lids are shaker lids with a double flip cover: a 5-hole side for fine spices and a large open side for coarse seasonings. The listing does not state jar height, jar width, lid airtightness, dishwasher safety or whether labels are included.

Kalnsa 4 oz glass jars with acacia wood lids, 6-pack

Best for: small glass jars with wood lids for a counter or shelf, where a narrow mouth is wanted. The listing says the narrow mouth is meant to help keep aromas in.

Skip if: you need the jar height or diameter, or you need to put the wood lid in the dishwasher. The listing does not state either.

Listing specs (checked 2026-10-17): 6 jars. Capacity is 4 oz (approximately 120 ml). The mouth opening is 4 cm, and the listing says to check measurements before ordering. The glass is high-borosilicate. The lid is natural acacia wood with a food-grade silicone ring and a threaded liner. The lids are described as flat and stackable. The listing does not state jar height or diameter, the glass thickness, or dishwasher safety for the wood lid.

Listing conflict: the title and bullet say 4 oz, while the variant selector also lists 8 fl oz and 13 fl oz. The bullet text does not describe those two sizes, so check the variant.

ComSaf 4 fl oz square glass spice jars, 24-pack

Best for: a complete kit in one order: 24 square jars, a set of labels and a funnel. The listing states all three.

Skip if: you want a stated airtight seal or dishwasher safety, because the listing states neither.

Listing specs (checked 2026-10-17): 24 jars. Each jar holds 4 fl oz and measures approximately 1.9 inches by 1.9 inches by 4.3 inches. The jars are square and clear glass. The pack includes bamboo lids, 24 dual-function lids and 6 wide shaker inserts, for 30 inserts in total. The listing says three lid settings control the flow from pour to shake. It includes 93 preprinted labels for common American spices, plus blank round and square stickers, and the title says a funnel is included. The listing does not state the glass type, whether the lids are airtight, or whether the jars or lids are dishwasher safe.

Deco haus 4 oz square glass spice jars, 24 set

Best for: a set with stainless steel lids and two shaker inserts per jar, plus a large label supply (280 labels, 200 of them preprinted). The listing says the stainless lids close securely.

Skip if: you need the jar dimensions, or you prefer bamboo lids and the selected variant is stainless. The bamboo lid is a separate variant.

Listing specs (checked 2026-10-17): 24 jars at 4 oz each (the title and bullet agree). The glass is described as thick and clear, and the jars are square. The selected variant has stainless steel lids; a bamboo lid variant is also listed. Each jar includes a fine-hole and a coarse-hole shaker insert. The set includes 280 labels (200 preprinted, 80 blank), a chalk marker and a stainless steel funnel. The variant list also shows a 36 set. The listing does not state jar height or diameter, dishwasher safety or the lid gasket material.

SAVVY & SORTED 4 oz glass spice jars with bamboo lids, 24-pack

Best for: a drawer kit with a grinder lid, a funnel and 374 labels, including 88 food date or expiration labels.

Skip if: you need the shape to be certain. The listing gives two different shapes, and you should check the variant you order.

Listing specs (checked 2026-10-17): 24 jars at 4 oz each (title). Each jar is listed as 4.25 in tall and 1.75 in by 1.75 in. The lids are bamboo, with shaker lids included. The pack includes one pepper mill grinder lid and a stainless steel funnel. The label set has 374 labels in white and black, including 88 food date or expiration labels, and the listing says the labels are waterproof and removable. The listing does not state the glass type, dishwasher safety or whether the lids are airtight.

Listing conflict: the color variant is named Rectangular Spice Jars, while the bullet text says square spice jars. Check the photo and the variant before you order.

Mistakes to avoid

Do not assume a capacity you have not read on the listing. Four of the six listings state 4 oz or 4 fl oz per jar, the PPXHFV listing states 9 oz, and the Zoaiirte selected variant is 8 fl oz. Each figure is a volume. None of the listings states how much spice a jar holds by weight.

Do not assume the set includes what you expect. The ComSaf, Deco haus and SAVVY & SORTED sets name a funnel. The Zoaiirte, Kalnsa and PPXHFV listings do not name one in the title or bullets.

Do not treat the variant selected on a page as the default. Several listings show variant choices for size, lid or label color that the bullet text does not explain, so confirm the variant in your cart.

Measure the drawer or cabinet opening and the jar height before you order a set. The listings give height for only some of the products, and the Zoaiirte height is 4.33 inches while the SAVVY & SORTED height is 4.25 in.

Who should skip buying spice jars

Skip this category if your spices already fit in the jars you own, or if you need a rack or shelf to hold the jars. Racks and shelves are covered in separate posts on this site, such as spice storage ideas, kitchen organizers for spices and spice drawer organizers.

If you only need a few jars, skip the 24 and 30 counts and look at the 6-pack listings first. The Deco haus listing also shows a 36 set in its variant list.

Where the storage advice comes from

The Texas A&M Dinner Tonight page “Spices, Do they Expire?” (dated September 12, 2019) says to “Keep spices in the original bottles or store in airtight containers,” and to “Store in a dark cool place.” The same page says spices do not spoil, but “over time the flavor and potency of the spices will diminish.” We cite it for storage and freshness only. For storage in a pantry with spice organizers, see pantry spice organizers.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a spice jar hold?

It depends on the listing. Four of the six products state 4 oz or 4 fl oz per jar. The Zoaiirte selected variant is 8 fl oz, and the PPXHFV plastic jars are 9 oz (270 ml). The Kalnsa listing also shows 8 fl oz and 13 fl oz variants.

Are these spice jars airtight?

Some listings say so, and some do not. The Zoaiirte feature line, the Kalnsa title and the Deco haus title all use the word airtight. The ComSaf, SAVVY & SORTED and PPXHFV listings do not state an airtight seal. The Texas A&M page advises keeping spices in airtight containers.

Can I put spice jars in the dishwasher?

Only the Zoaiirte listing states that its jars are dishwasher-safe, and it recommends hand washing the wood lid. The other five listings do not state dishwasher safety.

Do these sets include a funnel?

ComSaf (title), Deco haus and SAVVY & SORTED name a stainless steel funnel. The Zoaiirte, Kalnsa and PPXHFV listings do not name one.

Does freshness depend on the jar?

The Texas A&M page says to store spices in a dark, cool place and says flavor and potency diminish over time. Choose the jar for size, lid type and fit, and keep it in a cabinet or drawer away from heat.
