Garage Storage Shelf Options: Stated Specs Compared

A garage storage shelf has to carry heavy boxes, tools and bins without moving. This page compares four garage storage shelf listings by the figures each listing states: capacity per shelf and in total, mounting method, dimensions and adjustability. Two of the four are freestanding steel units and two are wall-mounted. The listings do not state every figure, and one wall-mounted listing gives two different sets of dimensions, so the gaps and conflicts are shown in the table and in each spec block.
Quick answer
- Freestanding: the Amazon Basics 4-shelf steel unit lists 200 lbs per shelf and 800 lbs total, with height adjustable in 1-inch steps. Its listing does not state anti-tip hardware.
- Wall-mounted: the WALMANN 2-pack lists up to 400 lbs per shelf, but only when mounted into wall studs. Jusgym lists 250 lbs per shelf, and Brukid lists 130 lbs per panel.
- The Brukid listing gives two different sets of dimensions. Check the size against your wall before you buy.
- Read capacity as a pair: per-shelf and total are separate figures, and the listings state each one separately.
The short answer
For a unit that stands on the floor, the Amazon Basics listing states the largest total capacity in this group. For a unit on the wall, the WALMANN listing states the highest per-shelf figure, and that figure assumes wall studs.
How we chose
We started from five listings for the search term garage storage shelf, read on 2026-10-28. The selection criteria were these:
- The product is a garage storage shelf unit, meaning a shelf or rack sold for storage. The listing must name garage use or describe a shelf that fits a garage.
- The listing states at least a per-shelf or total weight capacity, plus a mounting method.
- The figures come from the listing itself. We did not add figures from memory or from other sites.
We considered five products and left out one. The VEVOR storage shelves (B0CC5JXSVB) were removed because the listing names bathroom, kitchen and laundry room as room types and does not list garage. Its capacity figures are real, but they are not garage figures. The other four are shown below in the order they were read. This is not a ranking, and no product here was scored against the others.
Comparison table
Each cell shows what the listing states. “not stated” means the listing does not give that figure.

Amazon Basics 4-Shelf Steel Wire Storage Shelves
This is the only freestanding unit of the four. It is a wire rack with four shelves, and it is sold for a floor mount.
- Capacity: the listing says each shelf holds up to 200 lbs, evenly distributed, and that the total is 800 lbs.
- Dimensions: the listing says 23.2in W x 48in H x 13.4in D.
- Adjustability: the listing says shelf height adjusts in 1-inch increments. It has four leveling feet.
- Material and finish: the listing says alloy steel with a painted black finish.
- Assembly: the listing says it assembles quickly with no tools needed.
- Anti-tip hardware: not stated.
- Room type: the listing names garage and also laundry, kitchen, playroom and living space.
Jusgym 2 Pack Heavy Duty Garage Wall Shelving
This listing is for two 2 ft x 3 ft wall shelves with U-hooks. Its mounting notes limit it to wood studs or solid walls.
- Capacity: the listing says each shelf holds up to 250 lbs and the pair combined holds 500 lbs. The title also says 500lbs.
- Dimensions: the overview lists 35.63in W, 23.5in D and 8.94in H. The title says 2x3ft per shelf. The listing does not explain why the overview depth and height differ from a 2 x 3 ft shelf, so treat them as stated.
- Hooks: the listing says 2 large and 6 small hooks sit below the shelves.
- Mounting: the listing says it works with wood studs or solid walls. It names concrete and brick as solid walls that need expansion anchors, and it says the product is not suitable for metal walls.
- Material: the listing says alloy steel with a rust-proof special feature and a black color.
- Anti-tip: not applicable as a wall-mounted listing, and the listing does not discuss it.
WALMANN 2-Pack Heavy Duty Wall Mount Shelves
This listing is a two-shelf wall kit with brackets that lock onto screws. Its capacity figure is the highest per shelf in this group, and the listing ties it to studs.
- Capacity: the listing says each 24in x 36in shelf supports up to 400 lbs when mounted on wall studs.
- Dimensions: the listing says 36in W x 24in D x 5in H.
- Mounting: the listing says the brackets have three screw points each and fit 16in or 24in wall studs. It says to use your own anchors on concrete walls. All hardware is included.
- Material and finish: the listing says powder-coated steel with reinforced brackets.
- Total capacity for the pair: not stated.
- Adjustability: not stated.
Brukid 2-Pack Garage Wall Shelving
This is a four-shelf wall system made of two panels. Its listing contains the most conflicting dimensions in the group.
- Capacity: the listing says 130 lbs per panel and 520 lbs for the 2-pack.
- Dimensions: the overview says 10in D x 30in W x 22in H. The title says 15.6 x 36 inch per shelf height cassette. These two sets of figures disagree and both are shown here. The listing does not say which is correct.
- Mounting: the listing says sliding rail screws let the shelves sit on studs at any spacing within the 36in panel length. It says expansion anchors are needed for brick or concrete.
- Assembly: the listing says tool-free assembly, with all hardware included and slotted rectangular tube supports.
- Material: the listing says precision-stamped single-sheet steel.
- Adjustability: the listing names adjustable as a feature. The height range is not stated.
Tying capacity to the mounting
Each figure above applies only under the mounting the listing describes. The WALMANN number assumes wall studs. The Jusgym number assumes wood studs or solid walls and is not for metal walls. The Brukid number assumes studs or expansion anchors in masonry. None of the listings gives a load for drywall with a generic anchor, so do not assume one.
The freestanding Amazon Basics figure is a per-shelf and total figure. The listing does not say whether the 800 lbs total is evenly split. The arithmetic matches: four shelves at 200 lbs each comes to 800 lbs, which is the total the listing states.
What the safety source says
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s AnchorIt.gov page, which we opened on 2026-10-28, says that existing furniture can be anchored with inexpensive anti-tip brackets. It describes these as inexpensive and gives no price or install time. The page does not name garage shelves or bookcases. It applies its advice to top-heavy furniture in general, and it says that televisions that are not wall mounted should still be anchored to the wall.
The freestanding listing in this group does not state anti-tip hardware. If you put a tall freestanding unit in a garage, check whether the product includes a kit before you load it. The listing does not say how much weight the top shelf can take safely.
What we could not verify
- Anti-tip hardware for the Amazon Basics unit: not stated in the listing.
- Weight of any unit: not stated in the four listings.
- Total capacity for the WALMANN pair and adjustability for the Jusgym and WALMANN units: not stated.
- Which of the two Brukid dimension sets is correct: the listing does not say.
- Load ratings for drywall anchors, or for masonry anchors beyond the expansion anchor note: the sources we opened do not cover them.
- Whether the Jusgym overview depth and height match its 2 x 3 ft title: the listing does not explain the difference.
Buying checklist
- Write down the per-shelf figure you need and the total you need. Check both against the listing.
- For a wall unit, find the stud spacing in your wall. The WALMANN listing names 16in or 24in spacing. Brukid allows any spacing within its panel.
- Confirm the wall type. Jusgym says it is not suitable for metal walls. Brick and concrete need expansion anchors according to two of the listings.
- Measure the floor or wall space against the stated dimensions, and if the listing gives two sets of figures, measure both.
- Count the hardware. Jusgym includes a template, a bubble level and hardware. WALMANN says all hardware is included.
- For a freestanding unit, look for anti-tip hardware in the listing before you assume it is included.
Mistakes to avoid
- Do not add the per-shelf figure to the total and assume both apply. The Brukid listing states 130 lbs per panel and 520 lbs for the pair, and the two are different figures.
- Do not mount the Jusgym shelves on metal walls. The listing says the product is not suitable for them.
- Do not rely on the WALMANN 400 lbs figure without studs. The listing ties it to wall studs.
- Do not measure the Brukid unit from the title alone. Its title and overview list different dimensions.
- Do not assume the Amazon Basics unit is anchored. The listing gives no anti-tip detail, so the unit may arrive without any.
FAQ
Is 800 lbs total the same as 200 lbs per shelf?
No. The Amazon Basics listing gives both figures. The 800 lbs total matches four shelves at 200 lbs each, and the listing states that total.
Can I hang a wall garage shelf on drywall?
The listings name wood studs, solid walls, wall studs or masonry with expansion anchors. The sources we opened do not cover drywall anchors, so the safe answer is to mount into studs.
Do garage shelves need anti-tip hardware?
The CPSC AnchorIt.gov page advises anchoring top-heavy furniture with inexpensive anti-tip brackets. The Amazon Basics listing does not state anti-tip hardware, so check before you load it.
Which listing has the highest stated capacity?
For a single shelf, the WALMANN listing states up to 400 lbs, but only on wall studs. For a whole freestanding unit, the Amazon Basics listing states 800 lbs total.
Why do the Brukid dimensions disagree?
The title gives 15.6 x 36 inches per shelf height cassette, and the overview gives 10in D x 30in W x 22in H. The listing does not say which set is correct, so both are shown here.
